SmileProgress

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

SmileProgress is not a diagnostic app. It's a calm way to keep track of your own change. Here are the things people ask most often.

About the app

What does SmileProgress do?

It aligns and anonymizes your orthodontic mouth photos on your device so you can keep a personal record. It does not assess teeth or treatment outcomes.

Which devices are supported?

iOS comes first. Android is on the roadmap. The web app lets you view your records and read public stories.

How often should I take photos?

Six photos a day is the rough target: open and closed, front and both sides. About 30 seconds once it becomes a habit. Daily is great, a few times a week is fine.

Privacy

Are my photos sent to a server?

Originals never leave your device. Alignment and anonymization happen locally. Only when you choose to share, an anonymized and compressed image is uploaded.

What does "anonymize" mean here?

Anything outside the mouth is blurred or cropped, and EXIF, location, and other metadata are stripped. Shared images are downscaled to roughly 1200-1600 px on the long side.

Do you read my country automatically?

No. You choose whether to show your country when you create a post. We don't use city-level data.

Will my data ever be sold in the future?

We will never sell or transfer Posted Data alone to any third party. This is set out in the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If the Service is ever handed over to another operator (a business succession), shared Posts move with the Service so it can keep running, but we never separate Posted Data from the Service to hand it to anyone else.

What does 'business succession' mean?

It means the Service is handed over to another operator so it can continue. For example, if a different company starts running the Service, your shared Posts move with the Service to the new operator. We give at least 30 days' notice before such a change. If you would rather not move with the Service, you can delete your Posts beforehand.

Will my photos be used to train AI?

No. We do not use Posted Data to train any machine learning model. This is set out in the operating policy of the Privacy Policy. If we ever needed to change this, the new policy would apply only to Posts submitted on or after the effective date. Existing Posts would never be affected retroactively.

Sharing and community

How do I choose the audience?

Pick from Anonymous, Limited URL, Private, or Protected (Pro) every time you share. Then review the anonymized preview before posting.

Can I take a post down?

Yes. Make any post private, or delete it entirely, at any time. You can do it from the app or the web.

Who can see other people's photos?

Only posts that chose Anonymous appear in "Stories". Limited-URL or Private posts are hidden from public listings.

Data and backup

What happens when I switch phones?

iPhone Quick Start and iCloud backup are planned. The app also offers a manual export and import path.

How many photos can I keep?

Local storage is sized for a 3-year course of treatment, around 6,000 photos. Each shared post can include up to 10 images.

Pricing

Is there a free tier?

Browsing public stories, previewing anonymization, and trying a few corrections is free. Long-term recording is one-time paid.

How much will it cost?

The one-time purchase is planned around 1,500 yen (roughly 10 USD). Pro (limited URL sharing, sync, protected sharing, etc.) will be roughly 3-5 USD per month, or 24-48 USD per year.

What's only in Pro?

Limited URL sharing, iCloud auto-sync, multi-device sync, protected sharing (per-viewer watermarks and access logs), and future timelapse generation. Basic recording and comparison are covered by the one-time purchase.
